Fourth of July Essentials

Written by: Jon Gaffney

Every year we celebrate our Independence on the 4th of July. Fireworks, barbecues, camp outs, good drinks, and better company all help to kick off the unofficial beginning of summer. Traveling this weekend will be insane as it always is, so once you get to your destination, you won’t want to break camp until the weekend festivities have concluded for good. Because of that, making sure you bring the right gear to facilitate an awesome time is critical. Here’s a roundup of the gear we think will make not only this July 4th a good one, but the rest of the summer as well.

Yeti Rambler Colster – These are some of the pricier koozies you’ll run across, but once you use one nothing will suffice for your beer moving forward. They work on bottles and cans and use double-wall vacuum insulation that prevents any beverage “sweat” from hitting your hands and keeping your beverage of choice ice cold till the last sip.

Day of Games Bocce Ball Set

Day of Games Bocce Ball Set – This chrome set of the classic lawn game comes with a bottle opener and two koozies (not as nice at the Yeti ones sadly). Break these out to get everyone up and moving after having inhaled the fruits of a midday grill session. Play solo or with partners and be sure to keep a frosty beverage in your non-throwing hand for “better balance.”

Kuiu Boonie Hat – Nothing spoils a great 4th BBQ like ending up with a tomato head. A good hat keeps the sun off your head and neck and out of your eyes. The KUIU Boonie improves on the classic military hat with light weight Cordura fabric that will dry quickly and an adjustable sweatband to tighten if some winds kick up.

American Flag Zippo

American Flag Zippo – Sparklers, firecrackers, and much more are an integral part to celebrating Independence Day. Skip that lame grill lighter and use a Made in the USA Zippo that will only get better as the years go by. Just be sure to be safe.

Fuji Instax Wide – Cell phones are great for quick snaps, but to really wow everyone bring a Fuji Instax Wide to the party. The nostalgia of Polaroid instant photography and being able to hold a physical picture instantly is guaranteed to make everyone smile. Don’t be surprised to see your photos on people’s refrigerators the next time you visit.

ENO Hammock Double

ENO Hammock Double – Relaxing in a hammock is one of the best places in the world to be. ENO hammock’s pack down to the size of a cantaloupe and can be set up nearly anywhere. Stash one in your car for instant chill. Make sure to get the double wide version, it’s more comfortable for one with room to spare for your significant other.

Edgevale Guide Shirt – Putting on sunscreen isn’t always enticing, but not doing so is a roll of the dice with your long term health. The Guide Shirt from Edgevale is the perfect shirt for the holiday weekend and the summer. Tailored cut, good looks, super breathable, and UV protection. You’ll be reaching for it over and over.

Kelsyus Floating Water Hammock

Kelsyus Floating Water Hammock – The ENO Hammock is great on land, but when it’s time to cool off in the pool or lake, Kelsyus’s Floating Water Hammock is perfect. Suspending you in the water so you can easily float we only wish it came with a cupholder…

Chubbies Showtimes Tear Aways – As Chubbies likes to say “Sky’s out, thighs out.” Their Showtime tear away bathing suit will leave no-one questioning your dedicated patriotism. A good weekend should be fun, and Chubbies can provide some excellent humor.

Igloo Trailmate Cooler

Igloo Trailmate Cooler – Spoiled food and warm drinks are a recipe for a poor weekend no matter how you decide to spend it. The Igloo Trailmate has all terrain over sized wheels so you can easily drag it to wherever the party is happening. It will retain ice for up to 4 days, has tie down loops for safe transport, built in bottle openers and cup holders, and even a mobile device stand so you can cue up your playlist.
