Ghee Butter: The Ultimate Fat for Camp Cooking

If you are planning to spend time in the outdoors this fall and plan on cooking over an open fire, make the most out of your camp cooking experience by using clarified butter, “ghee,” to prepare your foods.

Here are four reasons why:

  1. Ghee does not need to be refrigerated. In fact, in Ayurveda medicine, a 5,000-year-old holistic medicine practice, the health benefits of this oil actually increase as it sits in your pantry.  So, you can put a little in a small jar and take on any camping trip.
  2. Ghee has a smoke point of 485 degrees F.  That means you can cook with it over an open fire without it beginning to smoke. When an oil/fat begins to smoke it releases harmful/inflammatory-free radicals.
  3. Ghee contains essential vitamins and nutrients such as vitamins A, D, E, K2, and butyric acid. All of which are important for healthy immune function, cognitive function, gut health and increasing bone density.
  4. If you want to maximize the flavor of the foods you are cooking you will NOT get any better than ghee butter.
